The Spanish Agency for food safety and nutrition (AESAN) has conducted the first national survey of Spanish food intake and the results show that there are few carbohydrates and many Spanish dietary fat if you compare the current consumption with the existing recommendations.
The survey was conducted to 3000 people aged 18 to 64 years and very specific and important data about the diet of the Spanishcould be obtained with it, may is so we know that the average food brings per day about 2500 Kcal of which 40% is provided by fat16% protein and 41 per cent derived from carbohydrates.
These data allow to see that it is necessary to eat more carbohydrates and reduce, especially the contribution of fat. Also it is known that most Spaniards do not consume daily the 5 servings of fruits and vegetables recommended and in addition, only 3.3 rations of food rich in carbohydrates are consumed per day when the recommendation indicates of 4 to 6 servings a day.
On the other hand, increased consumption of meat and they include third consumption of sausages, by which much of the fat can be derived from there.
Then, the recommendation to balance the diet is include more fruits and vegetables daily, increasing intake of rice, potatoes, pasta and other whole grains as well as also, reduce the intake of fatty meats and sausages, pastry products.
Another great help is reducing the intake of fried and increase the consumption of vegetables, to reduce fat and carbohydrates to join the Spanish diet. But above all, we must include more fruits and vegetables daily to not only increase carbohydrates and fiber, but also the micro-nutrients in the diet.
